My name is Jenny Lauck, and I'm a ceramic artist and storyteller.

Creativity has always been part of my self-expression from my earliest childhood memories. My childhood in the 1970s and 1980s was full of self-led exploration and creative play. I believe my resilience and innate joie de vivre is a product of my upbringing as part of the last “free range” generation.

Following a diagnosis of ADHD in my late 40s, I embarked on a journey to reclaim my creative spirit. Over the course of my life, I’ve thrown myself into a variety of creative pursuits and have found a real passion for playing with mud.

I’ve always been a bit of a magpie, collecting shiny objects, interesting tales, and talismans. My ceramic sculptures are inspired by folklore, archeology, the natural world, and creatures of all kinds. I employ simplistic shapes and quirky details to spark imagination and invite interaction. I love to play with scale and surfaces to create a sense of whimsy and wonder.

I’m mom to three young adults, two big fluffy dogs, two spoiled cats, one bearded dragon. I’m also the lucky wife of a very patient man, who never questions why I’m always covered with clay, and who has spent the last 28 years dodging piles of creative detritus with his sense of humor intact.

I’m currently one of the facilitators at Sebastopol Center for the Arts Ceramic Studio and I occasionally teach hand-building and monster making classes at SebArts, too. Come join me for open studio on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm.)
